Lakewood Trial Courthouse Preaching:
The Truth About Joel Osteen
Creator, Savior, & Judge
In this sermon, Sean seeks to confront the consciences of the listeners (from many different backgrounds) with the truth of God's purpose in creation, salvation, and eternal judgment. Many people in this generation profess to be "Christians," and even seek to live their lives in a way that imitates the morality expressed by Christ in the Scriptures - but is this enough? Is God satisfied with outward morality and fleshly attempts to live righteously, while the heart remains fearfully and stubbornly rebellious to full surrender to the Lordship of Christ? Fearfully many lost souls are satisfied to have morality and "peace with God" (though it be false), but are they willing to be reconciled to God Himself, relinquishing what was originally His before the fall of man: full, sovereign Lordship, dominion, and possession of the thoughts, will, intentions, motivations, and desires of a man's heart? This indeed is true, saving conversion! Anything else will be tried and found on that Great and Terrible day as mere filthy rags (Isa. 64:6), worthy to be cast away and burned! O may God have mercy! Dear friend, please consider: have you been truly reconciled in heart to this biblical and glorious Christ who takes away the sin of the world!?
The Message of the Cross
Most “Christians” are so busy loving themselves, naturally, they think God loves them (Ps. 10:3-6). Most “Christians” identify love from others when they are flattered (Dan. 11:21, 32, Ps. 5:9, 78:36, Mal. 2:17), and they feel “strong in faith” when built-up in SELF-esteem. Shockingly, God teaches us to DENY self, while these men teach its esteem. These “Christians” do lip-service to Christ by adoring His sacrifice, but they live a life of self-satisfaction and no-sacrifice (1 Cor. 4:8-10, 3:18). To them…self is “god”. They don’t imagine God is of a different mentality or personality than themselves. To what end? My reader, because of all this they feel that the preaching of God’s love – THE CROSS – is a message of hate (1 Cor. 1:18, Jn. 3:19, 7:7)! They can’t comprehend how a message of self-death is the means by which fallen humanity obtains everlasting life, and it is because they don’t have a biblical comprehension of themselves (Rom. 7:24, Gal. 2:20, Ezek. 18:4). If they knew themselves they would agree with God – they would hate themselves (Ps. 5:5, Lk. 14:26) – and in so doing, freedom from SELF would be, to them, a message of amazing grace, astounding mercy, and unfathomable love; freedom from SELF would be an exceedingly good announcement, thus the gospel, which is “good news”, would be good news indeed (Jn. 8:34-36)!
The Doctrine According to Godliness in the Last Days
"The Last Days" will be marked with with widespread deception and falsehood, according to biblical prophecy. The responsibility is laid upon every professing believer to search the scriptures and compare their witness with what is called "Christianity" in the 21st century. For good reason Paul pled with the 1st century Corinthians, "Be not deceived" (1 Cor. 6:9). He warned the Ephesians also, saying, "Let no man deceive you with vain words" (Eph. 5:6). The apostle John could not forbear to sound the same alarm, saying, "Let no man deceive you" (1 Jn. 3:7)! What was it all for? "Christianity" today appears to thrive now 2000 years removed from these warnings of deception... but is it real? We live in a day so late in The Prophetic Calendar, only fools would throng to the status-quo brand of "Christianity". The most tragic thing about deception is this: the individuals who are deceived DO NOT know they are deceived. My reader, are you deceived? This sermon is a humble attempt to answer such a question by the words of inspired scripture. May the Lord Jesus Christ be magnified.
