Poetry by Sean Morris (Elder)
“Wait Upon God”
Through Thy fires we are perfected, through Thy proving we are accepted.
Into the desert Thou leadest man, to teach them to look up in every plan.
David, proved in the caves, in due time was exalted after learning His ways.
He “went through fire and through water” (Ps. 66:12), and “Thou laidst affliction upon his loins “ (Ps. 66:11),
That when, with him, all Israel joins, when He has houses of cedar and golden loins,
He will not, in riches, find his comfort and rest, His heart shines of gold that the furnace does best.
He will know that no fortified city in the east or west will be a protection or confidence to establish his nest:
Wisdom & learning comes from the rod, by that did David learn, “that power belongeth unto God” (Ps. 62:11).
He did ever look up, steadfast and long, saying, “My soul, wait thou only upon God” (Ps. 62:5).
