Poetry by Sean Morris (Elder)
"Before the Throne of God Above"
Original lyrics by Charitie L. Bancroft (verses 1-3)
Additional lyrics by Sean Morris (verses 4-6)
1. Before the Throne of God above,
I have a strong and perfect plea,
A great High Priest whose name is love -
Who ever lives and pleads for me!
My name is graven on His hands,
My name is written on His heart,
I know that while in heav’n He stands -
No tongue can bid me thence depart!
No tongue can bid me thence depart!
2. When Satan tempts me to despair,
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look and see Him there,
Who made an end of all my sin!
Because the sinless Savior died!
My sinful soul is counted free!
For God the Just is satisfied!
To look on Him and pardon me.
To look on Him and pardon me.
3. Behold Him there, the risen Lamb,
My perfect, spotless Righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM,
The King of glory and of grace!
One with Himself, I cannot die!
My soul is purchased by His blood!
My life is hid with Christ on high!
With Christ my Savior and my God.
With Christ my Savior and my God.
4. Jesus enthroned in realms above,
Forgives men to empowered be,
That on earth by the Father's love -
All nations, tribes, and tongues do see!
To Cross by nails they pierced His hands!
No broken bones but bursted heart!
He rose and now ascended stands!
Better it was that He depart.
Better it was that He depart.
5. The Comforter ends all despair,
'Cause Gentiles live by Christ within,
The world amazed to see Him there -
Who died to reign instead of sin!
On earth Christ rules as Head on High,
Gentiles enjoined as His Body!
For God the Just is d'ssatisfied,
Till worldlings see the Bride's beauty.
Till worldlings see the Bride's beauty.
6. Behold Christ here in Gentile Man,
Our perfect spotless righteousness,
So God the Father, the I AM,
Loves boundlessly with pow'r and grace!
One with Himself He's brought us nigh,
Engrafted now like Branch-the-Tree,
Our words and deeds show Christ inside!
Living on earth to set men free.
Living on earth to set men free.
