Heavenly Vision
By Sean Morris
Info:
"I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision" - Acts 26:13-23
Every true and right-standing Christian has heavenly vision in some degree ("looking unto Jesus" - Heb. 12:2). Of course, Christians have a heavenly vision of Christ! Indeed, because, "we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Cor. 3:18)! Nevertheless, the question put to us by Paul's example is... are we obedient to the heavenly vision? To be obedient thereunto we must have a biblical understanding of how to relate to the revelatory sight of the unseen God ("as seeing Him who is invisible" - Heb. 11:27). My reader, do you understand this doctrine? It could be otherwise called, The Doctrine of the Beauty of the LORD.

Heavenly Vision is...
|
what both David & Moses called "the beauty of the LORD" (Ps. 27:3, Ps. 90:16-17).
what David described as a candle in the darkness that granted revelatory enlightenment (Ps. 18:28). what Job recollected, when he said: "[God's] candle shined upon my head" (Job 29:3). what Paul called "the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding" (Col. 1:9, Eph. 1:17). what Paul described as a Christian experience, when he said: "the eyes of your understanding being enlightened" (Eph. 1:18). |
Thereby, through heavenly vision, David accomplished the humanly impossible exploits recorded in Psalm 18:29-50. Thereby, through heavenly vision, Job accomplished the humanly impossible exploits recorded in Job 29:6-25. Through heavenly vision ("the light of Thy countenance" - Ps. 44:1-6) the Israelites took possession of the Promised Land. Heavenly vision is what made David courageous before Goliath (1 Sam. 17:45-47) and unafraid amidst an encroaching army of "ten thousands of people" (Ps. 3:6, 27:3); and, truly, it was the "one thing" that he desired and sought after his entire life (Ps. 27:4). Heavenly vision is what Jesus increasingly intensifies before the spiritual eyes of true Christians (Matt. 13:14-16) through the manifestation of the Spirit of God (John 14:21, 16:12-15) for the fulfillment of the will and purpose of God (John 15:7, 16, 16:23-24, 33). Also, heavenly vision is what backslidden Christians no longer possess because upon becoming "fallen from grace" they are blinded to the unseen glories of Christ (Gal. 5:4, 2 Pet. 1:9, Rev. 3:18). Furthermore, and, in conclusion, Christians must understand the Biblical Trajectory of the New Testament Heavenly Vision so that we might be obedient to the heavenly vision, like the apostle Paul was.
