Poetry by Sean Morris (Elder)
"End Well"
There is enough venom in my flesh to kill my soul (Rom. 3:13), Alas, my heart fights to maintain control (Rom. 6:12)!
Oh this body, it has enough in it of hell, that even my tongue can ignite its raging, fiery spell (James 3:6).
I am married to a harlot, even the old woman Delilah, and can her cries be consoled (Judges 16:15-16)?
By her cries she tares me down, she’s in the place of my habitation and always around,
So can she keep a secret since we are in near proximity bound?
One secret with this body of death you too may be enticed to test, and then you’ll seek comfort with a good night of rest.
Now at peace with the flesh you may think she will bother you less,
Now that you have not kept the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy chest (Micah 7:5).
Has her weeping and wining now turned for you into a night of rest?
At peace with Delilah, yet she is for war, she cuts away Christ that you have Him no more (Judges 16:19-20),
Till in the morning you’ll arise and reap this demise, as hell gouges out your eyes (Judges 16:21).
In this state God will not quickly hear your cries, you will carry the load for a while with godly, sorrowful sighs (Judges 16:22).
The Pillars of the Devil bind you on display as a spectacle and comedy for the company of hell, but brother seek repentance, and to this world give Samson’s farewell (Judges 16:30), and all of this will turn into a story for heaven to tell (Heb. 11:32).
Your life can still be for the glory of God even though you fell, as long as you arise now! And end well!
“Wherefore He saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light” (Eph. 5:14)!
