I Will Come on Thee as a Thief
By Sean Morris
A large portion of Jesus' Earthly Ministry was dedicated to prophetic warnings regarding the end of the world. Notably, though, these warnings didn't cease upon Jesus' death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. Rather, after the ascension of Jesus Christ into Heaven (the location of Jesus' Heavenly Ministry without cessation), such warnings were delivered with greater frequency and volume than ever before! Take the Book of Revelation for example. While ministering to the Church of Sardis, Jesus said:
"If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a Thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." - Rev. 3:3

Jesus said that He would come upon the Church as a THIEF! Such a warning as this deserves serious thought and prayerful consideration, my reader. Why would Jesus, the Savior of the World, speak to His redeemed people of Sardis in such a manner? If you can receive it, my reader: Jesus is speaking of the surprising robbery of undying souls from their refuge of false security! Fittingly, Jesus describes the danger of His 2nd coming to that of an unknown, intrusive, and quickly approaching Thief! Can you believe it?
"And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that Day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man." - Luke 21:34-36

People will depreciate, misunderstand, and misrepresent the provision of time that God does graciously provide as judgment tarries, not knowing that God can suddenly assert judgment at any time like a Mighty Man awaking out of sleep (Ps. 74:11, 44:23, 73:13-22, 78:65-66, Isa. 64:1-3, 12, 1 Thess. 5:3, Lk. 17:27-29, 21:34-35)! Therefore, what the people should thankfully regard as God's longsuffering, they will scorn as slackness and failure (2 Pet. 3:9). Time is provided and squandered! Patience is used and disregarded (2 Pet. 3:3-18, 1 Pet. 3:20, Gen. 6:3)! The 2nd Coming of the LORD is mocked as distant and afar off even while it is quickly approaching and surprisingly sudden in its arrival! This is the fearful reality...
As judgment lingers the right-standing saints will perceive it and realize the necessity of it, so they will pray and God will answer by the sudden awakening of judgment upon the Church and the World (1 Pet. 4:17-18, Rev. 5:8, 8:3-4, Ps. 74:11, Isa. 45:11, Ps. 78:56-66)! And, because so many people will be unprepared for the coming of the Lord, it will be fulfilled: "I will come on thee as a Thief".
