Poetry by Sean Morris (Elder)
"The Day of the Lord"
The morning coffee is steaming up and the birds of the sky are singing again.
It is the start of another day, a day to spend in peace and familial play.
The sunrise is slowly rising with its light in my bedroom creeping in.
Half the world sleeps, half are awake, half have the sun, and half have the moon.
Stars in the sky, clouds up high, food for the ants, and furry creatures hiding in plants…
Life with God’s creation is enjoyable, and it ought to be enjoyed at every time and chance.
Then one day I had a dream, a frightful dream I can’t get out of my head.
My heart is spinning, my mind in concern, my spirit is moaning like recovering from a death threatening burn.
How do I tell you, how can you hear, the reality of this dream and my present fear?
I will tell you the dream, the dream was this. Listen closely and hear, oh do not miss!
It was of a woman just like me, in the light of our days of repetitious vanity.
A woman going about her day,
She is enjoying life, feeling like everything is ok.
With her grocery list in hand, she in the grocery aisles stands.
Humming away, as cheerful as she can be, she was planning a dinner to cook just for me.
Enjoying the moment, reading ingredients, she looked closely at a jar,
And from the end of her shopping list she was not far.
Almost done and time was ticking away,
She reads casually with no hurry or dismay.
Then all of a sudden she drops the jar, and let out a shriek you could have heard from afar.
Crying loudly, convulsing on the floor, getting the attention of every person in the store.
I looked closer in alert, with widened eyes to find,
She is pregnant with her water broken, and care for her child is seizing her mind.
In beholding this sight I fell to the ground, with my face in my hands I wept aloud, but why did I cry I don’t know why?
Then again, all of a sudden, I found myself awake, hearing the sound of a great break!
I jumped out of bed, still this dream in mind, I ran to the kitchen only to find.
The window was broken, the back door open,
My child was crying and my mind was frying, it seemed as though all reason was dying.
Looking and turning, wondering what was stolen, my mind dizzy and my heart was rolling.
But wait, but wait! Where was the alarm?
Why did it not go off, that I was saved from this thievery and harm?
Then I cried aloud falling to my knees, my heart finding no rest or appease.
My face buried in my hands, I then looked up and I was, yet again, in the grocery stands.
I thought I was awake but I am back here, where the woman was crying in the birth pangs surprising timing.
Then again, and again, a thousand times again.
I heard her cry, I heard her cry, so loud it reached even to the sky!
JEEEEEESUS, JEEEEESUS, JEEEEESUS, JEEEESUS!
JEEEEEESUS, JEEEEESUS, JEEEEESUS, JEEEESUS!
In my mind was confusion, but all of a sudden there was a fusion.
I realized the meaning, the meaning of this call…..
But was this a dream after all?

"For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief." (1 Thessalonians 5:2-4)
"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" (2 Peter 3:10-12)
"And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day." (2 Thessalonians 1:7-10)
"Now will I rise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself. Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath, as fire, shall devour you. And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire. Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might. The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?" (Isaiah 33:10-14)
"Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image." (Psalm 73:18-20)
"And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" (Revelation 6:12-17)
