Poetry by Jordan Fraker
"XMAS" (written in light of A Case Against Xmas)
Jeremiah 10:2-4, “Thus saith the Lord , Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. [3] For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. [4] They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.”
Psalm 50:21-22, “These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes. [22] Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.”
Tis the season for high treason against the king of kings
The church learns all the way of the heathen, though in Jesus name it sings (Jeremiah 10:24, Deuteronomy 12:30-32)
Yes with their mouth much love they show, to Christ in manger lain (Ezekiel 33:31, Matthew 2:8)
Yet after covetousness they go, and this man o'er them won't reign (Ezekiel 33:31, Luke 19:14)
A baby Jesus! This pleases us well, and we a dying lamb afford
We'll take him as our servant but never as the Lord (Psalm 2)
Why call me Lord, Lord if you do not the things I say? (Luke 6:40)
Where in My word prescribed, did you find to worship Me this way? (Jeremiah 7:28-31)
When did I, your God, this day command - or for worship e'er require? (Deuteronomy 12:32)
Will you not from Nadab learn, who I consumed with fire (Leviticus 10:1-3)
With good intentions he did wrought, his worshipful desire
Yet God-ordained, it was not! His body now a pyre (Isaiah 33:12)
Or from Corinth did ye not see, how sickness, pain, and death I sent (1 Cor 11:28-30)
To Christians who partook of Me, yet from their sins did not repent.
Who among you shall with Me dwell - the Everlasting Burning? (Isaiah 33:13-4)
He who with clean hands and a pure heart as well, attains knowledge –The Holy learning! (Psalm 24:3-6, Proverbs 9:10)
So with trembling hear my word, unbreakable and true (Isaiah 66:2, John 10:35)
Walk in the light of what you've heard, lest darkness come on you (John 12:35)
A merry christmas now sanctified? No possibility stands!
For as a whole it hath defied, and broken My commands!
Fear God and do it not, lest I tear in pieces wholly (Psalm 50:21-3)
Or have you now indeed forgot - I AM HOLY? (Leviticus 20:26)
