Rolfe Barnard:
A Faithful, Uncompromising Watchman To a Generation Snared in the Apostasy of a False Gospel
“Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand. So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.” (Ezekiel 33:1-9)
Friends, are you ready to die? Who will take you to your eternal home? - “holy angels in chariots of fire” or the “demons of darkness from Hell?” Where will your home in Eternity be? In the presence of the Almighty's furious wrath, or in the arms of a loving King?
Below is a clip from a Rolfe Barnard sermon everyone should hear; i.e. “Watching Men Die.” Barnard's 1954 recording of this sermon is, in my opinion, his most anointed one still available (he preached it numerous times).
The message from this sermon is built upon the Scripture, Ecclesiastes 12:7* and Rolfe's experiences as a young single preacher in Borger, Texas, back in the 1920's. According to him, he stared death in the face on a day to day basis for 26 months and found out concerning all members of the human race that, “You've gotta die!”. On average, he preached three funerals a day at this time and on some days he preached seven. Many crooked men and sinful women died “beggin' him to keep em' outta hell”, but for the most part, it didn't happen. He says, regarding this time, “about all I did was hold the hands of people as they died beggin' me to keep em' out of hell and then goin' and sayin' a few words at this funeral parlour over the dead carcase of somebody and down to the next one and sometimes in the church. I watched men die! I saw men die!”
*Ecclesiastes 12:7 - “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.”
I desire that you, dear reader, would listen to this sermon, annexed below. I pray that the Lord would use this sermon to awaken your poor soul, if you be a sinner, who is one frail breath away from facing the Wrath of the King. If you be a saint, who is backslidden in the slightest, may the Lord strike a fear in you too, lest, in the greatness of your folly you fall away and go astray (Heb. 10:38-39; Ps. 51:10-14).

For a preview to the contents of this sermon and for a potential wake up call to anyone with ears to hear, here is an excerpt of Rolfe's from “Watching Men Die”. He is summarizing a cartoon from the 1950s in which Death is personified, and has it out for a man who wasn't ready to die. May Death not come upon you so unawares, dear friend, may the Lord help to make you prepared. Truly, may this be a warning to your soul, if you need it.
“I saw a cartoon of a business man early Monday morning, behind locked doors. He'd been out on his usual weekend spree and he's up at work trying to get things in shape for the week’s business. And he'd given orders that nobody disturb him.
“He's in his office with the doors locked and a black shrouded individual called Death came through the locked door with every knock and touched the man on his shoulder. And said, 'I've come for ya''. The man was busy, he didn't even look around and he said, 'go away, I can't be disturbed, I'm busy.' But Death tapped him on the shoulder again and said, 'I've come for ya',' and the man looked up and said, 'Who are you!' and he said, 'I'm Death.' 'I'm not ready to die!' 'But I've come for ya''. 'I can't afford to die now'. 'But I've come for ya.'' And the cartoon had Death grab him by his collar and drag him through the locked door out yonder into the Hands of God who gave him his spirit.
“There's a Red Letter day written down, known unto God in His appointment books, when you too will leave this body and go in your spirit into the hands of God who gave it. And if, before that time comes you've not been brought to godly repentance about your sin and living active faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the first death, the physical death, leads to the second death, that wakeful truth that's so plainly taught in the word of the living God.” Rolfe Barnard (Watching Men Die - 1954)

“And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.” (Luke 12:4-5)

Rolfe Barnard and the True Gospel of Grace
Versus the False Gospel of Disgrace
John F. Thornbury, a convert, under God, of Rolfe Barnard's, in writing a brief testimony of Barnard's life and ministry, rightly stated,
“One is reminded that, in every age when God is bringing about a reformation of some kind, he uses all types of individuals, including those who seem, to some, tactless and blunt. When the tide of error and compromise is flowing all one way, very outspoken and forceful personalities arise to stand against the current. Such were Savonarola, Martin Luther and Spurgeon. Barnard was in this tradition. Like many before him, such as Asahel Nettleton and A.W. Pink, Barnard believed that submission to Christ was an essential element of conversion. There were no words too scornful for him to use in denouncing the view that one can become a Christian by accepting the finished work of Christ while living in rebellion against Him. Throughout his ministry [1920s to 1969] he was one of the few American evangelists who taught that sanctification [Present Progressive Salvation*] is an essential part of being a believer. The 'Carnal Christian' theory** has prevailed to a tremendous extent in the U.S.A. this century. This has led to some professing believers living lives of open sin and disobedience. That error was anathema to Rolfe Barnard. In this sense he always belonged to the Puritan school on conversion.” John F. Thornbury
Note: Praise God! It is anathema to me too, because it is unbiblical and damnable heresy, and I love the souls of men and the truth of God's Word by the life-changing grace of Jesus Christ - how about you, dear readers?”

*In Sean Morris' book, “The Condescension of God”, I believe he does an excellent job expounding on the topics of Past Salvation, Present Progressive Salvation, and Final Salvation, or Glorification, in accordance with the teaching of Salvation in the New Testament. Two particular chapters that specially speak of these things are chapters 18 and 19. http://www.thecondescensionofgod.com/
**The 'Carnal Christian' theory is namely that you can be in denial of the Lordship of Jesus Christ, living a life of impenitent sin and not having overwhelming victory over sins such as self-will, lukewarmness, lightness, bitterness, pride, envy, vanity, carnality, foolishness, reviling, railing, slander, gossip, and the like – not to mention the more obviously egregious outward sins such as sexual immorality, drugs, and drunkenness – and still be worthy of the title, “Christian”, or one to whom the blood Christ shed on Calvary's tree will be, and is currently, atoning for. May the Lord wake you up if you have bought into this unbiblical, deadly, atrocious, and God-defying heresy and scandal of the ages!

The old prophet of yesteryear, Rolfe Barnard, speaks in his own words about the Gospel of Disgrace:
“We may be dead certain that the gospel message that does not cause offense is not the Gospel of God concerning His Son, when in these days we have revivals that do not revive, and people have a salvation that does not save, doesn't change them and still leaves them in possession of their heart's reins...Oh! How we long to have you as a prayer partner and get hold of the horns of the altar of God, to the end that we might have some disturbance. That men should not have a gospel they can accept and never know it; and a salvation that they can get and lose it, and never miss it. And some sort of an experience that does not effect a change in them, that keeps on changing them until they are literally transformed into the very image of the Son of God. Oh! How we need the anointing of the Holy Ghost to come upon us everywhere as the Gospel of Christ is preached. This Gospel that offends the religious person, and is downright silly to a wiseacre, but is the wisdom and power of God to a humble babe who can believe. Romans 1:16: 'For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.' How we beg you to pray that this may come to pass.” -Rolfe Barnard, (The Offense of the Cross)

Some Scriptural & Historical Enhancement to the Quote from Barnard Above, in Defense of the True Gospel, That Turns Men from Sin:
“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness [lightness, looseness, shamelessness], and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Jude 1:3-4)
Compare the sinful fruit of these false prophets, “whose end shall be according to their works” (2 Corinthians 11:14-15), mentioned above in Jude 1:4, with the righteous fruits of the Apostle Paul's preaching to the Corinthians, as seen below. Paul, whose Spirit-filled and doctrinally accurate sound gospel preaching didn't turn the grace of God into a seeming license to impenitently and/or loosely go on sinning, like these false prophets today and in every age, but rather it turned them from their sins, idols and dead works to serve the living and true God with a pure conscience, perfecting holiness in the fear of God!
“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what CAREFULNESS it wrought in you, yea, what CLEARING OF YOURSELVES, yea, what INDIGNATION, yea, what FEAR, yea, what VEHEMENT DESIRE, yea, what ZEAL, yea, what REVENGE! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.” (2 Corinthians 7:10-11)
Praise God for the doctrine which is according to godliness, even the wholesome words of our Lord Jesus Christ, which makes men that believe it holy, righteous, justified, and true (1 Timothy 6:3-8)! Truly, praise the King whose Gospel really saves from sin (Romans 1:16-17)! Yea, bless Him, Who made the earth and the Heavens and everything else, Who sustains it all by His Word, and redeemed His Saints by the blood of Himself in the mercy of His triumphant grace! Bless Him!
More from this Blessed, Faithful Preacher of the Gospel:
"I knew for five long years that salvation for me meant I had to be a public preacher. And I believe it is meant for you to do whatever the will of God is for you. For me it was this: I knew that surrender to King Jesus meant I would have to be a preacher and that was the one thing I was not going to do! So I did what it seems that most professing Christians have been able to do (I couldn't get the job done though!). I tried to get God to save me without throwing down my rebellion, but that just won't work. You just can't do it and call yourself a Christian. If you do, you're certain to go to hell. Until your rebellion is crushed and you surrender to do his will, there is no salvation.” -Rolfe Barnard, (How God Saved Me from Infidelity)
“The beginning of a Christian life in a sinner, the preparatory work is to bring him to crying out, 'Depart from me, for I am a sinful man.' There must be a Holy woe on the lips and in the heart of a man. That is where it has to begin. For 30 years most pastors have refused to give the Spirit of God a chance to produce that Holy woe. And they have been getting people to believe they are saved before they ever spent one moment in godly sorrow for their sins and repentance. now we are reaping an awful harvest of deceived souls.” -Rolfe Barnard
“The day you sign a treaty of peace with any sin you are headed for hell. When you come to where you can have peace with any kind of rebellion against Him you’re dead wrong! You are dead wrong!” -Rolfe Barnard, (When the Saints Shout Hallelujah)
“The surest way for you to be dead certain you'll go on to hell is to keep on sinning against what you know is so.” -Rolfe Barnard, (Christ Could Do No Mighty Works)

The Essence of Biblical Salvation According To Rolfe Barnard:
In the sermon excerpt below, Rolfe Barnard highlights the essence of “Biblical salvation” as opposed to the “false gospel decisional flattery” that was prevalent in his day and still is in ours. Do you believe this gospel that is a miraculous work of the Spirit of God making all things new instantaneously, dear reader? - For there is not another propagated by the written Word of God.
“My friends, coming to Christ, resting on Christ and turning from sin in full surrender to Christ is far different from deciding for Christ as your Saviour. Those who pervert the Gospel beg people to accept Jesus as their Saviour, and they will be saved. That is a lie out of hell, because it is not in the Bible. If a person does not surrender to Jesus Christ as your lord to rule and reign over you — why! — you are not saved! We also hear these words spoken by preachers who pervert the Gospel: 'Now sinners, God has done His part — the Devil wants you, and Christ wants you, and you have the deciding vote.' But, my friends, that is a lie out of Hell! Christ didn't just offer Himself for office. He is working now, He is on a throne now ruling and reigning as Prophet, Priest, and King. He does not stand by while we try to get people to decide for Him as the Gospel is proclaimed.
“He comes in the Spirit actively to draw men to Himself, and thus we preachers say that He is a Saviour for sinners. The Father and the Spirit draw sinners to Christ. Salvation is of the Lord. Thank God it is all in Christ. And to the question, 'What must I do to be saved?' And this is the question of questions. The Old Gospel replies, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ." And then, somebody says, 'What does that mean?' The Old Gospel replies, 'It means knowing oneself to be a sinner and Christ who died for sinners. It means to abandon all self-righteousness and self-confidence, and cast yourself wholly upon Christ for pardon and peace. It means exchanging one's natural enmity and rebellion against God for a spirit of grateful submission to the will of Christ, through the renewing of one's heart by the Holy Ghost. It means God taking a sinner and making him a new creature in Christ.'” -Rolfe Barnard, (The Difference in the Old Gospel and the New Gospel)
Below is the heartfelt testimony of any truly saved saint at past salvation and unto the end. If you don't have it, you don't have God and you are yet in your sins. May the Lord have mercy on your lost soul.
My dear almighty Lord,
My conqueror and my King,
Thy scepter and Thy sword,
Thy reigning grace I sing:
Thine is the power; behold I sit
In willing bonds beneath Thy feet.
(A Verse from Isaac Watts’ hymn, “Join All the Glorious Names.”)

A Relevant and Loving Warning from me, to Whoever it Appertains, in America, China, Russia, Mexico, the Middle East, even unto the ends of the earth:
Contrary to popular opinion, as well as the shameful and damnable opinion of many a seminarian in 2014, if you have not submitted to the Lordship of Christ, full-stop, you are not saved. My dear people, the Apostle Paul, a pattern Saint, was scarcely saved by the merits of the blood of the Lamb, that were appropriated unto him by way of cleaving to the Lord with purpose of heart unto death, and if you are saved, it is because you have done, and are set to do, the same unto the end, no matter the cost, thus the blood of our precious Paschal Lamb, Jesus Christ, is being equally appropriated to you. Or it is not ... and you are yet in your sins under God's unequivocal displeasure.
He (the Apostle Paul) said, after fearsome warnings by the Holy Ghost of imminent danger, “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24) I warn you all, my dearest readers: you too must be able to say this, in its essence, or you must needs expect nothing less terrible than the gloomy words of a Wrathful Lamb at the day of judgment, coming in a day not so far away, thundering upon you, as expressed in Matthew 25, verse 14: “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.”
O my soul, it is very hot in Hell, dear friends, and I wouldn't want any of you to go there, so make good the words of the Apostle Peter, by applying them to yourselves and walking in the light of them, before it is too late and you are involuntarily forced to look into the face of an angry God, burning with the undying wrath of an unstoppable King against your sins, as He commands His angels, which excel in strength, to bind you hand and foot and cast you into outer darkness where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Namely, please consider the Apostle Peter's words of fervent admonishment in 2 Peter 1:10a - “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure...”

“The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.” (Proverbs 20:2)
“The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.” (Proverbs 16:14)
“The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.” (Proverbs 16:14)
May God have mercy on many souls, before the Day of Christ unexpectedly falls upon us. Yea, may He have mercy upon you in that day, dear reader, Christian or non-Christian, and not unquenchable wrath. May the King have mercy, before it is too late and all the world wonders after the beast. It is truly the dying desire of my heart, through the grace of my great King, who gives all true saints a burden for souls - my great King, that is, Jesus Christ the Living Lord, and there is not another.
“Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.”
(Proverbs 11:31)
“Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”
(Psalms 2:12)
(Proverbs 11:31)
“Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”
(Psalms 2:12)
Finally, a closing and vital statement of consideration from the late blessed preacher of righteousness, Rolfe Barnard:
“God isn't filling hell with innocent victims, hell’s being filled with rebellious refusers to walk in the light they got.” Rolfe Barnard (When the Lights Go Out on the Road to Hell)
